Hi, I’m Mehmet Göktuğ Öztürk.
Since childhood, I have been fascinated by nature, the dynamics that shape it, and understanding why things occur where they do. This curiosity led me first to biology and ecology, and later to geographic information systems, remote sensing, and spatial data analysis.
After graduating from the Department of Biology at Hacettepe University, I completed my MSc in Ecology, where I studied the spatio-temporal patterns of lightning-induced wildfires. I am currently continuing my PhD studies in the same department.
R is one of the main tools I use when working with spatial data. My workflows involve raster and vector processing, remote sensing, spatial statistics, machine learning, data visualization, and reproducible analysis, using R alongside Python, Bash, GDAL, and various GIS tools.
The idea of starting a blog first came to me through Ozan Mert Göktürk and his well-known blog havadelisi, from which I learned a great deal about science communication in one’s native language and about blogging culture. As my interests developed over the years, I decided to shape this blog around R.
On R Delisi, I mainly share content about R, Python, GIS, and spatial data science. Using real-world data from ecology, biogeography, climate, and meteorology, I explore examples of analysis, modelling, and visualization.
